Stamford Bridge's past...
With its 16th century corn mill and 18th century stone bridge, Stamford Bridge is an ancient crossing point of the picturesque River Derwent. The Roman's established a fort here in 70 AD and in 1066 on September 25th the Battle of Stamford Bridge heralded the end of the Viking era in Britain; the historic names of the epic battle live on in street names including Harold, Hardrada and Tostig.
